Roland Saavedra, MD
Medical Director
Dr. Saavedra was raised in the friendly small town of Warrenville, Illinois. He completed his undergraduate studies at Loyola University of Chicago; He went into medical studies at The Chicago Medical School. Dr. Saavedra went on to complete his residency training at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
Dr. Roland Saavedra is board certified in Family Medicine and has special interest in Sports Medicine and Preventative Medicine.

His family has made Summerville their permanent home. He enjoys spending time biking, gardening, going to the beautiful South Carolina beaches, and traveling to Patagonia Chile.
Christopher J. Gray, DC, CCEP
Chiropractor
Dr. Gray is a 2001 graduate of Sherman College of Chiropractic with his Doctorate in Chiropractic. He also attended Life University where he did an extensive study on Extremity Adjusting, earning him his certification as a Certified Chiropractic Extremity Practitioner (CCEP). Working with some of the best chiropractors in South Carolina, he gained the knowledge and experience to open Advantage Healthcare of Charleston in May 2008. Dr. Gray started his career in the health field by starting his career as a licensed personal trainer for many of the upstate Gold’s Gyms and the YMCAs, he learned from the early age how the body functions and how easy it was to get hurt. With his interest in holistic health and fitness, he now incorporates that knowledge into wellness programs for his patients; combining manipulations with physical therapy, as well as nutritional counseling to help his patients achieve optimum health. Specializing in sports injury cases, he also works with families, including infants, children, expectant mothers, and senior patients.
Dr. Gray was born in Brampton, Ontario, a suburb of Toronto, Canada. He lived there until 1991 when his family made the decision to move to the USA. Dr. Gray has lived in Charleston since 2005. He is happily married and has a beautiful stepdaughter. In his free time Dr. Gray enjoys going to the gym, spending quality time with his family, taking weekend trips to either the beach or to the mountains and working on his Roush Mustang.
Austin Murray, DC
Chiropractor
Dr. Murray is a native Charlestonian who has served the people of the Lowcountry for over 30 years. He did his undergraduate studies at The College of Charleston and Brenau Professional College. Dr. Murray obtained his doctoral degree from Life Chiropractic College in 1990. It was the experiences of observing how his stepfather, Dr. Robert Johnson, was able to help people regain their health and prevent them from having to have life-altering surgeries through chiropractic care that led to his desire to follow in his footsteps. Dr. Murray has always been interested in health and fitness and understands that wellness is not just the absence of disease but the expression of life.
Dr. Murray is at Advantage Healthcare because of the integrated approach to health. It is the approach of combining medical, physical therapy, and chiropractors working together for the betterment of the patient that he feels makes all the difference. When Dr. Murray is not in the office he is spending time with his wife and children being active in the outdoors enjoying nature, playing tennis or disc golf.
Corey Baumis, FNP-C
Family Nurse Practitioner-Certified
Corey Baumis is a local Stratford High School graduate who discovered his love for nursing and medicine through his service as President of the HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) club. He obtained his BSN from Lander University in 2014 graduating with honors. After almost a decade in bedside, travel, and school nursing; Corey pursued his MSN from South University to care for underserved populations and help patients achieve better health outcomes. After graduating from South University in 2023 and becoming Board Certified, Corey immediately began working as a dedicated FNP in North Carolina caring for rural geriatric populations in assisted living and memory care units across the state. Despite the rewarding work, he felt called back to the Low Country that he called home as a child.
Starting his nursing career in pediatric and ICU nursing over a decade ago, Corey has developed an eye for the minor details and is passionate about advocating for the needs of his patients. Corey is dedicated to educating his patients on their diagnoses and treatment plans to ensure every patient’s right to autonomy. He has served communities across the state of South Carolina as well as across the United States in an effort to bring compassionate healing to people during their hardest moments.
In his free time Corey likes to hike and enjoy the beach with his two dogs Milo and Yogi. He also enjoys finding new restaurants to try and going to concerts or live music. Corey returns to the Charleston area to be closer to his family where he is excited to work with the AHC team helping you achieve your wellness goals.
Michael Johnson
Physical Therapist
Michael has lived in the Charleston area for over 40 years. He is the son of a career Naval Submarine officer and he lived with his family in the West Ashley area until he graduated from High School. He then went on to the University of South Carolina, was an exchange student in the Philippines and returned to Charleston to graduate from college and then on to attend MUSC. In 1996 he graduated from MUSC with a Degree in Physical Therapy and a Masters in Health Science.
He has over 25 years of experience in various fields of Physical Therapy, including sports medicine with the Back to Golf Program , home health therapy, and outpatient therapy. He feels that his greatest achievements are when he is able to have patients improve their physical function to achieve their maximum potential to live a better life.
Michael now lives in Summerville and some of his favorite activities include golf, boating, scuba diving, and various art projects.
Brian Baker, PTA
Physical Therapist Assistant
Brian lives in Summerville with his wife, Amanda, and their three cats – most of which act like dogs. He was born and raised in Charleston, but got a taste of the big city when he lived in NYC for 8 years. Brian’s career in wellness originated as a personal trainer before he transitioned to a more clinical role in physical therapy. He loves to hike, eat delicious food, lounge in the pool with his wife on a Saturday, and practice Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Houzn Jiu Jitsu Academy.
