Medical Weight Loss

AHC offers safe and healthy medical weight loss programs which are administered and supervised by our practitioners.  We first evaluate your needs and goals, then recommend the program we feel will achieve the best results. In addition to the treatments and medications listed below, there are several other medications that are used less frequently to assist with weight loss. All medications come with precautions, potential side effects and/or contraindications. During your initial evaluation, it will be determined which medications are most appropriate and may be prescribed to assist you in your weight loss journey on your way to a healthier lifestyle.

Phentermine is an FDA approved appetite suppressant designed to boost energy while curbing your appetite. If we determine this is the best weight loss option, our physician will prescribe a 4-8 week course of the medication. We will work in conjunction with the medication to adjust your diet and help you determine an activity/exercise program which can be worked into your daily routine.

Phentermine is an appetite suppressant that works in the brain. It is used for chronic weight management. It is for people with overweight and weight related complications or obesity. It is meant to be used together with a lifestyle therapy regimen involving a reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity.

This program includes:

  • Initial exam
  • 4-8 weeks of physician monitored medication (Phentermine)*
  • Diet plan
  • Activity/exercise plan
  • Counseling
  • Weekly visits and weigh-ins

*Program does not include the medications, but includes monitoring.

Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 is very successful in weight loss when it is combined with an appropriate diet and activity plan. Low B12 levels can interfere with a number of body systems, making you feel tired and depleted.  Boosting your Vitamin B12 helps increase your activity level and metabolism.

Semaglutide injections can significantly decrease many patients’ overall body weight and abdominal fat. A recent study showed that semaglutide weight loss is effective in many areas, especially the stomach, and can help patients lose belly fat. Semaglutide treatment can help reduce the risk of heart disease, liver disease, stroke, and high blood pressure for patients.

Semaglutide’s weight loss effects stem from its ability to mimic the GLP-1 hormone that is responsible for sending messages to our brains when we eat. It tells our brains when we are hungry and when we are full. Semaglutide mimics this hormone and tells the brain when the body is full much faster. It also slows down the digestive process, allowing the stomach to feel full for extended periods of time.

Another way semaglutide promotes belly fat reduction is by increasing our metabolic response to stored fat, breaking it down, and repurposing it for energy. By targeting stored fat, those who struggle with belly fat tend to see a significant change from the injections.

While semaglutide excels in promoting weight loss, results are unique to every person. Patients who use semaglutide injections in conjunction with balanced diet and regular exercise see the best results. Semaglutide is a great way to kickstart one’s healthy journey and aids in creating more mobility for a patient to be able to lead a more active life. Making lifestyle changes is critical for patients who wish to see sustainable results.

Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine dimesylate) is an FDA-approved central nervous system stimulant used to treat ADHD and binge eating disorder (BED). While it is not approved for weight loss, the use of Vyvanse for moderate-to-severe BED can lead to weight loss.

In non-technical terms, Bupropion helps patients who have stress-related eating far better than those who have boredom-related eating. If you merely have bad eating habits, this may not be the best choice for you. If you are an emotional eater, this may be a great medicine for you. It stimulates noradrenaline, dopamine, and (less-so) serotonin receptors. This gives you more energy, suppresses your appetite, and enhances your mood. Stress increases cortisol and ghrelin which stimulate your appetite. Dopamine and noradrenaline suppress your appetite. Because the medicine improves stress and mood, it was originally invented as an anti-depressant. However, later studies showed that it helped people quit smoking, so Bupropion has been FDA-approved to help with smoking cessation. Further studies showed that it helps provide weight loss better than diet alone.
